Divorce ADVICE PLEASE!!!?

I am going throu a divorce.

my husband came to my work and a random guy handed me

the petition of divorce while her watch from afar.

should a court official have done this or what?

and i wasn't asked to sign anything. so

its like i never got the papers.Divorce ADVICE PLEASE!!!?
Anyone can hand you the papers, as long as it wasnt your husband. You dont have to sign the papers because the guy who served them on you was a witness that you actually received it. Thats why divorce papers are not sent through the mail because there is no guarantee you will get them. That is why they are delivered to you in person by someone other than your husband, so that you cant dispute not receiving the papers. If you have a problem and dont think it was done correctly, give you family court a call and see what the correct procedure is. Im pretty sure though what I have said is correct, but there is no harm in checking up formally.Divorce ADVICE PLEASE!!!?
In the United States any person not directly involved with a case can serve papers on someone. Then they will have to file an affidavit with the court saying that they handed you the papers (aka: served you with the papers)... Legally served.

I have good info on protecting yourself in a divorce, check it out:

Good Luck
Thats how its done, they do it that way for a reason.
This means ';you-have-been-served';.

This is a required legal procedure.

Also meaning that you have been made aware of the legal divorce proceedings brought against you by your husband.

You need to find yourself an attorney.
Consider yourself served baby. I am sure when the guy walked up to you , he asked if you were who you are , and at that point handed you the papers. Its official. You had witnesses as well.

Time to get your stuff together and be ready for the next step.

good luck.
if you took possession of the papers and there were witnesses, you were legally served.
No, they do not have to get a court official to do it...you have been served. And that's why he got the other person to do it, so if you don't show up and try to say you didn't ever get served, that person can testify they gave you the divorce papers. Then, the judge will grant him the divorce in your abscence and it will most likely not be in your favor. Get a good lawyer and try to get prepared for what's coming. It's not going to be pretty if he's already playing dirty.
OK, better questions.

Do you have a lawyer representing you?

You'll need one.

What do you want out of this divorce?

House? Custody? Alimony? Child Support?

You need to have a strategy for this.

If you are getting a divorce, get your fair share.
All they have to do is have someone hand them to you. As long as it wasn't them. So, yeah you got them sorry. She has a witness you got them plus they were there even if it was from afar.....
you got served with papers. that random guy was probably a process server. and your husband is an asss. be happy you are getting rid of him. squeeze him dry.
If they are actual court documents and they are noterized, they are real and you have been served. A court official does not need to serve you if he has someone that can do it for him, having paper work served to peope costs, he found a cheaper way... think abuot it, he seerved you, which means he filed for divorce which means money has already come out of him pocket. He's just trying to save some money and end the marraige all at the same time.
